*Updated 7 October 2026. [Generate More](https://generatemore.ai/?hsLang=en-us) is a Helsinki-based AEO and AI SEO agency for Nordic and international B2B software companies, founded in 2024 by Lari Numminen. I test AI search tools hands-on for client work, and my test of LLMrefs dates from November 2025.*

## What is LLMrefs in 2026?

LLMrefs is an AI search analytics tool from London that tracks keywords instead of prompts. You enter a keyword such as "best project management software", and LLMrefs generates a set of conversational "fan-out" prompts around it, runs them across AI engines and reports how often your brand and your competitors are mentioned and cited. The [homepage](https://llmrefs.com/) sums up the pitch as "Grow your brand's visibility in AI search" and says it is trusted by more than 10,000 marketers.

LLMrefs homepage, October 2026

## LLMrefs at a glance (October 2026)

| **Company** | LLMrefs, London, United Kingdom |
| --- | --- |
| **Founder** | James Berry, Founder and CEO |
| **Team size** | 1 to 10 employees, according to Crunchbase |
| **Tracking unit** | Keywords, expanded automatically into fan-out prompts |
| **AI engines** | ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Meta AI, plus Grok and DeepSeek listed on the homepage |
| **Price** | $79/month, one plan, 7-day free trial |
| **Best fit** | SEO teams and small agencies that think in keywords and want low-cost tracking across many projects |

## Who is behind LLMrefs?

LLMrefs is a small, founder-led company. James Berry signs the company blog as Founder and CEO and describes himself as having more than eight years in revenue-driven search optimisation. The [About page](https://llmrefs.com/about) gives an office address on Great Portland Street in London, and [Crunchbase](https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/llmrefs) lists a team of 1 to 10 people.

The product launched publicly on [Product Hunt](https://www.producthunt.com/products/llmrefs) on 1 May 2025, finishing third that day. Since then its blog has focused on original research. The latest post on the [LLMrefs blog](https://llmrefs.com/blog), from April 2026, reports that ChatGPT ads appear in nearly 20% of US responses. Customer logos on the homepage include eBay, HubSpot, IKEA, Klarna, NVIDIA and Shopify, and testimonials come mostly from UK SEO agencies such as Rise at Seven and Connective3.

## How does LLMrefs' keyword approach work?

The homepage puts it plainly: "With LLMrefs you track keywords, not prompts." Each keyword is fanned out into several prompts that LLMrefs says are based on real conversations people have with AI chatbots, so the user never writes prompts by hand. Results roll up to the keyword, with a share of voice, the sources cited and the competing brands mentioned. LLMrefs also estimates monthly AI prompt volume for each keyword, which is unusual in this category.

This is the single most important thing to understand before buying. Teams that already plan content around keyword lists from Ahrefs or Semrush will find the model familiar and fast to set up. Teams that want to know exactly which question a buyer asked, and what the AI answered, will find the keyword roll-up too coarse. That was my main reservation in 2025, and the methodology has not changed.

## What can LLMrefs do in 2026?

- **Engine coverage.** The homepage FAQ lists ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI and DeepSeek. The [pricing page](https://llmrefs.com/pricing) names eight of these and leaves out Grok and DeepSeek, so check the current list before relying on those two.
- **Weekly refresh.** According to the FAQ, every keyword is updated at least once a week. My test account in 2025 refreshed monthly.
- **Geography.** Tracking covers more than 50 countries and 20 languages, with filters by engine and country.
- **Unlimited projects and seats.** Every account can monitor several brands and invite the whole team at no extra cost.
- **Data access.** CSV export and API access are included, and LLMrefs publishes a JavaScript SDK on [GitHub](https://github.com/LLMrefs). I found no MCP server.
- **Free tools.** An AI crawl checker, Reddit thread finder, llms.txt generator, ChatGPT prompts database, query fan-out tool and AI content A/B tester are free to use.

Sentiment analysis, AI traffic analytics and content recommendations are still missing from the product pages. Those were the gaps I noted in 2025.

## How much does LLMrefs cost in 2026?

LLMrefs has one plan, called All in One, at $79 a month. The 7-day free trial needs no credit card.

| Plan | Price | Included |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **All in One** | $79/month | 500 tracked prompts (about 50 keywords), all engines, unlimited projects and team members, CSV export, API, priority support, free tools |
| **Extra keywords** | Not listed | "You can upgrade to add more keywords to your organization at any time" |

The price is unchanged from my 2025 test. What has changed is the wording, which now counts 500 prompts rather than 50 keywords. Independent reviews from [Rankability](https://www.rankability.com/blog/llmrefs-review/) and Trakkr still describe the plan as 50 keywords, which matches ten fan-out prompts per keyword. Annual pricing and an enterprise tier are not shown.

## Who is LLMrefs for?

LLMrefs suits SEO specialists and small agencies who want AI visibility numbers that slot into their existing keyword reporting. The flat price with unlimited projects and seats makes it one of the cheapest ways to add AI search tracking for many small clients at once. It is a weaker fit for B2B software companies that need to understand specific buyer questions, sentiment or the content changes that would improve their position.

## What I found when I tested LLMrefs in 2025

I tested LLMrefs in November 2025 on a free trial for a mid-sized SaaS company, configuring one high-priority keyword and ten related prompts. Setup took minutes and the dashboard read like a traditional SEO rank tracker, which made it easy to explain to non-specialists.

When I compared its output with manual prompt testing, LLMrefs reliably flagged when our domain was cited, so the data capture worked. The limits came from the keyword roll-up. I could see how often we appeared for a keyword, but not which exact prompts produced a citation, and the most useful view, the Sources tab, was easy to miss. There was no sentiment tracking and no AI traffic analytics, and data refreshed monthly. I also questioned the llms.txt generator, since Google has said publicly that it does not use the file.

My 2025 verdict was that LLMrefs was a basic, low-cost tracker for SMBs and early testers. A year later the price and the method are the same, the refresh cycle is faster and the engine list is longer.

## What do LLMrefs reviews say?

There is very little independent feedback. LLMrefs has no reviews on [G2](https://www.g2.com/products/llmrefs/reviews), one 5-star review on [Product Hunt](https://www.producthunt.com/products/llmrefs) and no Trustpilot profile. Third-party write-ups from Rankability and Trakkr agree that the keyword-first model and the low price are the main reasons to choose it.

## LLMrefs compared with similar AI visibility tools

LLMrefs, Scalenut, Gumshoe and RankPrompt all sell AI visibility tracking for under $100 a month, and each is built around a different idea. The table shows what sets each one apart.

| Tool | What sets it apart | Entry price | Best fit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **LLMrefs** | Keyword-first tracking that fans each keyword out into prompts | $79/month, one plan | SEO teams and small agencies that think in keywords |
| [Scalenut](https://generatemore.ai/blog/scalenut-ai-search-review?hsLang=en-us) | Tracking bundled with a content writer, backlink marketplace and Reddit replies | $59/month ($24 billed annually) | SMB content teams that want one cheap all-in-one tool |
| [Gumshoe](https://generatemore.ai/blog/gumshoe-ai-review?hsLang=en-us) | Every prompt runs as an AI-inferred buyer persona | $99/month per project | B2B brands selling to several buyer roles |
| [RankPrompt](https://generatemore.ai/blog/my-rankprompt-review-the-ai-visibility-tool-that-actually-helps-you-get-external-citations?hsLang=en-us) | Citation outreach sent from your own Gmail, with before-and-after citation checks | $49/month (outreach from $89) | Agencies and small teams that want to act on citation gaps |

## Best LLMrefs alternatives in 2026

If keyword roll-ups are too coarse and you want prompt-level data or recommended actions, these are the tools I have reviewed that do it better. Each tracks prompts directly.

- [Writesonic](https://generatemore.ai/blog/my-writesonic-review?hsLang=en-us) is the alternative I recommend most often. Its [$79 Starter plan](https://writesonic.com/pricing) tracks 50 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and its Action Center, which turns gaps into on-page and off-page tasks, is available from the $399 Growth plan.
- [Promptwatch](https://generatemore.ai/blog/my-promptwatch-review?hsLang=en-us) starts at [$95 a month](https://www.promptwatch.com/pricing) for 50 prompts and includes MCP and API access on every plan.
- [Peec AI](https://generatemore.ai/blog/peec-ai-review?hsLang=en-us) offers daily tracking with unlimited users from its [Starter plan](https://peec.ai/pricing).
- [Otterly AI](https://generatemore.ai/blog/otterly-ai-review?hsLang=en-us) starts at [$29 a month](https://otterly.ai/pricing) for 15 prompts and is the cheapest prompt-based tracker I have tested.

## My conclusion on LLMrefs

LLMrefs has stayed true to its original idea. It is the tool for people who think in keywords, and its fan-out prompts and prompt volume estimates make AI search feel like an extension of classic SEO. At $79 a month with unlimited projects, the price is hard to beat for an agency tracking many small brands.

The trade-off is depth. The product still has no sentiment, traffic or content features, and few customers have reviewed it publicly yet. B2B teams that need to see the exact questions their buyers ask will get more from a prompt-based tool.

## Frequently asked questions about LLMrefs

### How much does LLMrefs cost?

LLMrefs costs $79 a month for its single All in One plan, which tracks 500 prompts (about 50 keywords) across all supported engines with unlimited projects and seats, according to the [pricing page](https://llmrefs.com/pricing). A 7-day free trial needs no credit card.

### Does LLMrefs have a free plan?

The pricing page shows a 7-day free trial of the $79 plan. The homepage also invites visitors to sign up for a free account, and Trakkr's review describes a free tier limited to one keyword, so a small free option appears to exist alongside the trial.
